Swedish Translator knowing the Culture and people Before You Go

Learning a new language at a later stage in life is difficult, but thankfully not impossible. Whether you are planning a fun vacation to Sweden or an important international business trip, it is important to understand the language and the culture before visiting to make sure that you are not only saying the right things, but also saying the right things in the right context, and with the right tone. When you travel internationally, it might be necessary to acquaint yourself with a Swedish translator of some kind. Whether it is a pocket-sized Swedish dictionary or a helpful native tour guide or liaison, a Swedish translator can make your trip an all around success.

While a Swedish translator is a helpful resource when traveling, it is important to remember that your own research beforehand can make the biggest difference both in how you present yourself to the Swedish people at large, but also how much you are able to understand once you arrive, and what you are then able to take away from this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Traveling internationally should really be a learning experience where the traveler learns more about another people, culture, and way of life. Here is a personal example to illustrate. My sophomore year of college taught me the importance of learning before going. I was accepted to an International Business Study Abroad program that took me all across Asia. Before going I attended preparatory classes that taught me the basics on the different countries culture, society, economy, and history. I found these facts interesting, and when I went to those countries I found my experience to be that much more enriching due to my previous knowledge.

In the short time you are there a Swedish translator can't possibly come close to explaining all of the cultural intricacies, so do your research. To cut to the chase and save you some time, here are some important things to know about Sweden, before going.

  • Culture: Sweden is a country of immigrants, and such, represents many different international cultures in one population. As such many Swedes find it hard to imagine life without the foreign influence of TV, music, fashion, and food that meet there. While the majority language spoken is Swedish, there are also the Sami and Finnish speaking minorities in northern Sweden. As far as English goes, although it is taught in Swedish schools, not everyone is fluent so don't forget your Swedish translator after all.

  • History: Swedish history runs over 10,000 years long. Be sure to have your Swedish translator explain more when you go. This country was highly influenced by the Germans and has a wonderful agriculture history that originates back to the Stone Age. Sweden stayed politically neutral during both World Wars of the early and mid 1900s. Sweden joined the EU in 1994, but continues to use the Swedish krona.

  • Economy: Sweden has a rich agricultural history. But, today only 3% of the nation's economy is based on agricultural and other once profitable natural resources such as iron ore, forests, and hydroelectric power. Today, the Swedish economy depends on telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and automotive industries for profit.

Okay, so maybe now you are thinking you won't need to research on your own or attain the services of a Swedish translator because you know all there is to know before you go. Think again. The added expense of time and money is minimal when you think of all you will learn while there. Make the most of your international traveling experience through research and a Swedish translator. Enjoy the world by exploring the world. Happy traveling!
